Position Overview

The World Food Prize seeks a detail-oriented, conscientious individual on a part-time, hourly basis to join the Hall of Laureates Event Staff. Headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa, The World Food Prize is the foremost international award recognizing the achievements of individuals who have advanced human development by improving the quality, quantity or availability of food in the world. 

This job is well suited for an undergrad or masters student, someone looking to pick up some hours and has a customer service mentality.  The event staff will get to sign up for shifts that work best in their schedule. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as the event liaison host. In this role you represent the “face” of the Foundation. 
  • Assist in staffing the entrance and exit doors 
  • Ensure venue capacity is not exceeded 
  • Assist Public Safety in emergency situations at the event 
  • Generally help to maintain a safe and well organized event 
  • Check to see if appropriate policies are being followed ( i.e. correct food and non-alcoholic rations, checking of identification, etc) 
  • Attend training and Event Staff meetings as required 
  • Assist in other duties as assigned 


  • Experience with computers, sound equipment and other audio visual and multimedia equipment 
  • Use of google suite products - google drive, google email, google calendar 
  • The ability to work independently, identifying resources and make independent decisions. 
  • Must be able to carry 50lbs 
  • Experience in a guest/customer services function, preferably at a cultural attraction or in a corporate environment.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, negotiation and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure without losing a customer-service oriented attitude.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Work will consist of on-site weddings, conferences, meetings and events for people who rent the Hall of Laureates. May be required to lift up to 25 - 50 lbs (generally office supplies or event props). Long periods sitting, may stand for prolonged periods during events.  Some bending and stooping may be required.
