Dr. Monty Jones of Sierra Leone, winner of the 2004 World Food Prize, has been named to Time magazine's list of the 100 "Most Influential People in the World."

The magazine honors Jones for his "legendary" role in developing NERICA (New Rices for Africa), varieties of rice that are adapted to West Africa's growing conditions. The magazine goes on to state, "Jones' work has also helped inspire other groups to support an African Green Revolution. The payoff will be a healthy, well-nourished continent on a path to economic development." See the article here.

More on Dr. Jones, who shared the 2004 World Food Prize with Professor Yuan Longping of China, can be found here.
