Prof. Yuan Longping and Dr. Monty Jones, 2004 World Food Prize Laureates, Join U.S. National Academy of Sciences

Professor Yuan Longping of China and Dr. Monty Jones of Sierra Leone, recipients of the 2004 World Food Prize, were elected as foreign associates of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences (NAS).

According to its website, "The National Academy of Sciences is a private organization of scientists and engineers dedicated to the furtherance of science and its use for the general welfare." It was established in 1863.

Longping and Jones were among 18 foreign associates elected to NAS, bringing the total number of foreign associates to 371.

Election to the National Academy of Sciences is based on "distinguished and continuing achievements in original research."
