The World Food Prize Foundation announced today that registration for the 15th Annual Iowa Hunger Summit is now open. Shifting from the traditional date, the free, day-long event will take place on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, in a completely virtual setting rather than during the annual World Food Prize week of events, held in October around World Food Day (October 16).
Earlier this month, the Foundation announced a transition in leadership for the program, with Kyle Poorman now leading the event. Madeline Goebel, former Director of the Iowa Hunger Summit, will be leaving the Foundation to attend graduate school.
“Kyle brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in the local and global food security arena,” said Barbara Stinson, President, World Food Prize Foundation. ”I am very excited to conduct the Hunger Summit in a virtual manner again this year, building on the positive response to last year’s event.”
This year, the Foundation is honored to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the Iowa Hunger Summit by gathering leaders from across Iowa representing community organizations, business and industry, state and local government, social agencies, churches and religious communities, schools and universities, civic and social clubs, and other individuals and groups that lead or participate in projects to confront hunger.
SUMMIT THEME:
The World Food Prize Foundation and Summit organizers recognize that hunger is inextricably linked to structures in the social, political, and economic landscape in which we all live. The 2021 Summit will focus on transformations within our food systems and the changes needed to end hunger and food insecurity in our state. The virtual dialogue will offer the opportunity for all participants to meaningfully engage in the discussion, and foment ideas for providing access to healthy food for all.
