The World Food Prize Foundation announced today that Joi Latson has joined its staff as a Program Coordinator.
“Joi brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in education, primarily focused on empowering and elevating young women,” said Barbara Stinson, President of the World Food Prize Foundation. “As our Global Youth Programs develop, her passion for food justice and eliminating hunger and poverty will be essential to our success.”
As a Program Coordinator, Ms. Latson will be responsible for assisting the Director of Youth Leadership Development in the implementation and creation of the annual World Food Prize Global Youth Institute, which brings together over 200 students and a like amount of teachers from around the globe each year.
Prior to her position at the World Food Prize Foundation, Ms. Latson served as the EAB Student Success Program Assistant at Iowa State University. She created material, led training sessions on student success initiatives and worked with campus partners to provide resources to close achievement gaps amongst students. Ms. Latson was also a member of the Peace Corps and stationed in Guatemala.
“I was first introduced to the World Food Prize Foundation during my undergraduate career and I am so excited to be able to say that I have officially joined the team of passionate individuals who are working towards eradicating food insecurity and hunger,” said Ms. Latson. “It is heartening to work directly with dedicated youth who bring a new perspective and fresh ideas to addressing food insecurity.”
Ms. Latson will aid in the development and creation of forward-thinking youth programming activities. She will work to redefine the goals and mission of the programs all while building a strong alumni network for the over 10,000 students who participate in the programs each year.
Ms. Latson graduated from Iowa State University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science Global Resource Systems and a minor in Languages and Cultures for Professions Spanish. As a part of her undergraduate education Ms. Latson studied abroad in Uganda where she conducted focus groups at the 8 Nutrition Education Centers (NECs) with pregnant and breastfeeding mothers about health, agricultural, and nutrition training they had received.
