World Food Prize Foundation COVID-19 Statement: Youth Programs

03/13/2020

At the World Food Prize Foundation, the health and well-being of our valued staff, partners and interns are always our top priority. As we navigate the rapidly evolving Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, we want to share the extra precautions and care being taken for the safety of youth program participants at Foundation events around the U.S. and abroad.

Every year, World Food Prize Youth Institutes convene high school students, teachers, and experts to explore and solve local, national and global hunger and food security issues. To participate in an Institute, students research and write a Global Challenge essay, and propose ideas and recommendations to address key challenges in global food security. Currently, the World Food Prize Foundation hosts 25 Youth Institute programs in the United States, the Netherlands and Honduras, and participants can be selected to be a delegate in the annual Global Youth Institute held each October.

Each WFPF Youth Institute is associated with a university where the event is held. As many universities move to online delivery of programming for staff, faculty and students, we are committed to continuing our partnership and support of these events.

Our team is working rapidly with our partners to provide online programming when necessary for our state and national WFPF Youth Institutes. This year’s programming will evolve, as our team works to address their needs.

We will soon be in a position to provide an online experience for every student who prepares their Global Challenge essay and intends to participate in a WFPF Youth Institute. Some of our WFPF Youth Institutes are currently on track to proceed as in-person gatherings, as planned.

Please check back with us frequently for more updates as this situation evolves. No programs are canceled at this time.
