The World Food Prize Foundation announced today that Abby Johnson has joined its staff as Special Assistant to the President.
“I chose Ms. Johnson for this important position from an array of exceptional candidates,” said Ambassador Kenneth Quinn, President of the World Food Prize Foundation. “I was greatly impressed by her work when she served as an intern with our organization and especially by her dedication to our goal of eliminating hunger in the world. I know that she will make significant contributions to our programs.”
As Special Assistant to the President, Ms. Johnson will be responsible for planning and arranging Ambassador Quinn’s international travel agenda and domestic speaking engagements. In addition, she manages his appointment schedule and correspondence and oversees select administrative procedures and special projects.
Ms. Johnson began her association with the World Food Prize Foundation in the fall of 2016 as a George Washington Carver College Intern. In that capacity, worked closely with the Director of Communications and Events, assisting in the planning of the 30th Anniversary Laureate Award Ceremony.
"I am forever grateful to have the opportunity to continue my efforts and presence with the World Food Prize, its staff, and other Iowans who have joined in the fight to alleviate hunger at home and abroad,” said Ms. Johnson. “I have dedicated a great portion of my early professional career to the World Food Prize Foundation already, and I look forward to what this new opportunity will bring as I continue on my journey."
Before accepting her position at the World Food Prize, Ms. Johnson previously worked as an event intern for the Chicago Bears and Prevent Child Abuse Iowa, helping to organize and implement their annual Child Abuse Prevention and Family Support Conference.
A Cum Laude graduate of Iowa State University, Ms. Johnson served with the Girl Scouts of America in her capacity as the Vice President of Community Service for Kappa Delta at Illinois Wesleyan University. Ms. Johnson has traveled internationally to England, France and Spain.
