May 11, 2010 - 2010 World Food Prize Laureate to be announced June 16 at State Department

 

May 11, 2010 - - The 2010 World Food Prize Laureate will be announced June 16 at the State Department in Washington, D.C.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, and USAID Administrator Rajiv Shah will deliver keynote remarks at the announcement ceremony.

The event will also feature Under Secretary for Economic, Energy, and Agricultural Affairs, Robert D. Hormats; World Food Prize Foundation Chairman John Ruan III; and World Food Prize Foundation President Kenneth M. Quinn.

This marks the seventh consecutive year that the World Food Prize Laureate has been announced at the U.S. Department of State. Secretaries Clinton and Vilsack also presided over the 2009 Laureate Announcement. A video and full text of Secretary Clinton's remarks can be found here.

The 2010 Laureate will receive the $250,000 World Food Prize on October 14 at a ceremony at the Iowa State Capitol. The award will be presented as part of the 2010 Borlaug Dialogue, the theme of which is "Take it to the Farmers: Reaching the World's Smallholders."
