Global Nomination Process for Agricultural Innovators Opens
Des Moines, Iowa (March 15, 2016) – The World Food Prize is now accepting nominations for its renowned award that recognizes the achievements of individuals who have advanced human development by improving the quality, quantity or availability of food in the world. Academic and research institutions, as well as government and non-governmental organizations are invited to submit applications online at www.worldfoodprize.org/nominate. The deadline for all nominations is May 1, 2016.
Since its creation in 1986, the World Food Prize honored 41 individuals who have made vital contributions to the quality, quantity, or availability of food throughout the world. Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, the first World Food Prize laureate and a Chair of the World Food Prize Selection Committee, said, “The World Food Prize, now regarded widely as the Nobel Prize in Food and Agriculture, recognizes the significant contributions of those who are working to transform Dr. Norman E. Borlaug’s vision of a hunger-free world into reality.”

ABOUT THE WORLD FOOD PRIZE: The World Food Prize is the foremost international award recognizing the achievements of individuals who have advanced human development by improving the quality, quantity or availability of food in the world. The Prize was founded in 1986 by Dr. Norman E. Borlaug, recipient of the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize. Since then, the World Food Prize has honored outstanding individuals who have made vital contributions throughout the world.
