The first annual Hoover-Wallace Dinner, with an attendance of over 500, brought together both political parties, educational institutions, civic, religious and farm organizations, businesses, and students and teachers for a celebration of Iowa’s great humanitarian heroes to honor Dr. Norman E. Borlaug in the year of his 90th birthday. The event was held at the Collins Plaza Hotel in Cedar Rapids and was sponsored by the World Food Prize Foundation and the Rotary Clubs of Iowa.
A native of Cresco, IA, Dr. Borlaug is the founder of The World Food Prize, and is credited with saving over 1 billion people from famine and starvation in the 20th century.
The Hoover-Wallace Dinner raised funds for the Borlaug-Ruan Internship Program, and several past B-R Interns attended the event.
