Harvest Festival?


 

The 2007 Laureate Award Ceremony


The 2006 World Food Prize Laureate Award Ceremony will again be held in the magnificent Iowa State Capitol BuildingDr. Philip E. Nelson of Purdue University will receive the $250,000 World Food Prize at the 2007 Laureate Award Ceremony. The evening will feature breathtaking performances by local, national and international artists as well as various tributes to Dr. Nelson and World Food Prize Founder Dr. Norman E. Borlaug.

The Laureate Award Ceremony will again be held in the magnificent Iowa State Capitol Building in Des Moines. More than 750 people are expected to attend representing over 60 countries.

The Laureate Award Ceremony will be broadcast live across the State of Iowa by Iowa Public Television on October 18 at 7:00 p.m.

World Food Festival


The Wells Fargo World Food Festival, October 13-15, 2006 in Des Moines' East Village

The World Food Prize has once again partnered with the Downtown Des Moines Events Group for the Second Annual Wells Fargo World Food Festival.

During the three-day festival, the World Food Prize will host an informational tent, complete with fun and prizes for kids, trivia games and displays honoring The World Food Prize Laureates, Dr. Norman Borlaug, and Iowa's unique role in feeding the world.

The festival runs October 5 -7 at the East Village in Des Moines. More information can be found here.

Norman E. Borlaug Symposium

 

The 2006 Norman E. Borlaug International SymposiumThe 2007 World Food Prize International Symposium will be held October 17-19, 2007 in Des Moines, Iowa.

The theme of this year's symposium will be "Biofuels and Biofood: Global Challenges of Emerging Technologies."

This annual symposium is in honor of the founder of The World Food Prize and "Father of the Green Revolution," Dr. Norman E. Borlaug.

Youth Events


In October of each year, the World Food Prize Youth Institute provides a three-day all expenses-paid educational opportunity and forum for Iowa high school students. Our students interact with Nobel and World Food Prize Laureates and are exposed to an array of experts, facilities and organizations relating to food security. The Youth Institute also provides young Iowans with opportunities to consider careers in food, agriculture and natural resource disciplines.

As part of its mission, the World Food Prize collaborates with organizations throughout the state during the Harvest Festival to provide activities and opportunities for young Iowans. In 2007 those activities include:

Dr. Norman Borlaug-World Food Prize Day Poster Heartland Area Education Agency (AEA) and the AEA network will distribute “Dr. Norman Borlaug – World Food Day Poster” to all Iowa k-12 schools, featuring special artwork (The Law of Harvest ) by Dick Shook of Slater, Iowa.

Youth Institute (OCTOBER 18-21, 2007)
In October of each year, the World Food Prize Youth Institute provides a three-day all expenses-paid educational opportunity and forum for Iowa high school students. On Saturday a forum is held at Pioneer Hi-Bred International campus in Johnston during which students from nearly 100 high schools present research papers to a faculty of international agricultural and development experts. About the Harvest Festival


The World Food Prize Harvest Festival is an annual statewide artistic and educational focus on Iowa's agricultural and humanitarian legacy.

World Food Festival

Annual highlights of the Harvest Festival include the Laureate Award Ceremony, International Symposium, Global Youth Institute, World Food Prize Lecture Series, and the World Food Festival.

Harvest Festival programs and events are planned throughout the state each year to enrich the lives of Iowans. In the past these have included showings of World Food Prize commissioned artwork, musical performances, Iowa Public Television documentaries, college lectures, outdoor recreational events and more.
