Dr. Gregory Geoffroy

Dr. Gregory Geoffroy

Dr. Gregory Geoffroy was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. He received his B.S. with honors from the University of Louisville, served as an officer in the U.S. Navy, and earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from the California Institute of Technology.

He was a professor of chemistry at Pennsylvania State University, becoming Head of the Department of Chemistry and Dean of the Eberly College of Science.  In 1997, he became Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at the University of Maryland.  Dr. Geoffroy became President of Iowa State University in 2001 and continues to serve in this position.

Dr. Geoffroy is married to Kathleen Carothers Geoffroy and they have four children. He is currently a member of the FBI’s National Security Higher Education Advisory Board, the Regents’ representative on the Iowa Power Fund Board, a member of the Iowa Business Council and President of the Iowa 4-H Foundation. He holds fellowships from the Alfred P. Sloan and John Simon Guggenheim Foundations as well as the American Association for the Advancement of Science.  He is the recipient of the Dreyfus Foundation Teacher-Scholar Award.
