Before coming on full-time as Special Assistant to the President at the end of October 2009, Maura served for two years as a Production Assistant at the World Food Prize Laureate Award Ceremony.

Maura's commitment to the World Food Prize mission stems from her passion for, and a background in, public health, human rights and education issues.

A Des Moines native, Maura has spent the last 5 years outside of Iowa studying and working.  She holds a B.A. from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, where             she studied psychology, international development, and foreign languages.  While at     Lewis & Clark, Maura spent three years as a Campus Living Advisor, with a focus on enhancing community outreach & international programming opportunities on campus.  Maura also had the opportunity to plan & lead a HIV/AIDS volunteer program in San Francisco; work as a Research Associate for the Behavioral Health & Social Psychology lab; and serve as a campus organizer for the 2008 Focus the Nation national teach-in and summit.  In addition to living & working in France, Maura has spent two academic semesters abroad: first, through a trilingual (French, English, Wolof) cultural studies program in Dakar, Senegal; and second, completing a Diaspora Studies program and an Encompass Trust internship in London, England.  Most recently, Maura completed a Sustainable Farming Practices internship at Braestone Farm in Kentucky.

Maura is an active community volunteer and serves on the Executive Committee of the Generation Iowa Commission.
