Lisa Fleming

Director of Youth and Education Programs
The World Food Prize Foundation


Lisa Fleming joined The World Food Prize Foundation as the full-time Director of Youth and Education Programs in June 2001. She is responsible for directing the Foundation’s two youth programs for Iowa high school students and teachers as well as developing the Foundation’s education outreach relationships at the local, state, national and international levels.

Since 2001, she has worked with hundreds of high school students and educational professionals from across Iowa, the United States and abroad during the Foundation’s annual October Global Youth Institute which serves to promote international understanding and the development of awareness of global food security issues among Institute participants. In addition, Lisa has successfully directed 81 of the total 88 high school student participants to date on international agricultural internships in 15 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America through The World Food Prize Borlaug-Ruan International Internship Program.

Lisa previously worked at the Iowa Council for International Understanding (ICIU) in Des Moines to manage the World Food Prize Youth Institute and International Internship Programs, as well as two additional youth programs sponsored by ICIU and the Stanley Foundation (Muscatine, IA): one for international college students in Iowa and the other which focused on international high school exchange students in the state. She also served in the capacity of international program manager for educational professionals visiting Iowa from abroad.

A Georgia native, Lisa has a Master's Degree in French Literature from the University of Georgia in Athens where she also completed all coursework for a modified Master's in Foreign Language Education and holds a Bachelor's degree in Art History. She has five years experience teaching French at the high school level and two and one half years at the college level as well as nine years librarian-curator experience at the University of Georgia Main Library.
